Two-factor authentication

Add a second step to signing in — a 6-digit code from an authenticator app. It protects your login, not your data.

1Turn it on

  1. Open Security & keys

Go to Security & keys and select Enable two-factor authentication.

  2. Confirm your password

Then scan the QR code with an authenticator app, or type the setup key by hand.

  3. Enter a code to confirm

Type the 6-digit code from the app and select Verify and enable.

  4. Save your recovery codes

Store the recovery codes you're shown — they're your way back in if you lose the app.

Scan the QR code, then confirm with a 6-digit code.

2Signing in with it

After your password, you'll enter the current 6-digit code. Ticking Remember this device for 30 days skips the code on that device for a while.

3Good to know

  • Authenticator app only — Cognos doesn't send codes by email.
  • Trusted devices are cleared when you log out, disable two-factor, regenerate recovery codes, or change your password.
  • Two-factor guards your login. Your data is still unlocked by your Account Key.
